FEATURED READER: Mark Zorn - many of you know Mark as the master organizer and book wizard at Prospero's Midtown.  Others know him as dispenser of sage advice and one of the finest ears in the region.  After over a year of helping us help ourselves, Mark is preparing to return to the Pacific Northwest.  Please join us as we celebrate his poetry.

FUNDRAISER: The March Pit will be a special fundraiser for Write the Future and the upcoming World’s Longest Poetry Reading. In April, over 150 poets will attempt to set a world’s record for the longest poetry reading. Poets will read for 120 hours beginning Friday April 2nd at 10am. We are needing some special equipment, printing, and a small slush fund to help provide gas $$ for poets traveling from NYC, LA and elsewhere. Please do what you can to help make our April event a success.

Its been a while since we’ve done a monthly Pit, and I’ve had several questions:

Q: Is the Pit a Slam
A: The Pit is not a slam. We welcome all forms of poetic expression, but do not interject competition. We also like to hear poems that don't rhyme. Heck you don't even have to memorize, do push ups, or swallow a gold fish...to get our attention.

Q: Is the Pit BYOB
A: No. A $3 cover gets you in the door. Refreshments are available (for a modest donation to the literary nonprofit Write the Future).

Q: How do I get to read?
A: Readers will be selected by the Pit Boss during each set. This is a purely autocratic process subject to the whim of the Pit Boss. Preference will be given to:

a) those who are present for our featured reader
b) those who attend the PIT each month
c) those bringing new work
d) the flow of the reading and the sheer whim of the Pit Boss (based upon his knowledge of each poet’s style and ability)
